While most people opt for a massage solely for the enjoyment it brings, it's essential to recognize that massages offer numerous benefits and positive effects that many may not be aware of. One of the most well-known effects of a massage is its ability to reduce tension. When we talk about tension, we can refer to two types: physical tension, or muscle tension, and mental tension, such as mental stress. These two forms are often closely intertwined. Excessive mental stress frequently leads to physical tension and vice versa. A typical example is someone with a demanding office job spending long hours in front of a screen. Maintaining an unnatural static posture often results in increased muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. However, an excess of mental tension can also contribute to this. Many individuals, when in a stressful situation, unconsciously tense up. The static and unnatural posture, coupled with high work pressure, can create a vicious cycle where tension increases on both mental and physical levels. This can lead to various issues, such as poor sleep, tension headaches, or neck and shoulder discomfort.
A massage can be an excellent solution in this regard, addressing both aspects. Mentally, it promotes relaxation, creating a relaxed and pleasant feeling. On a physical level, the application of appropriate relaxing techniques during the massage reduces muscle tension and enhances the flexibility of the areas being massaged.

Mechanical Effects of Massage
In addition to alleviating high muscle tension, a massage has other physical effects that can positively impact the body. It enhances blood circulation in the skin and muscles, crucial for their optimal functioning. Through the blood, oxygen, and various nutrients can reach the tissues.
Release of Substances
During a massage, various substances are released in the body. The amount of stress hormones decreases, inducing a relaxed feeling. Additionally, two substances, endorphins and oxytocin, are released, bringing about numerous positive effects. Endorphins have a pain-relieving effect and are crucial for feelings of happiness and well-being. Oxytocin, often referred to as the "cuddle hormone," plays a significant role in feelings of trust and stress reduction. These substances can have a prolonged positive effect on both the body and mind. With regular massages, this effect can even last for days or weeks.
